The Benefit Bank
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November, 21, 2011
WHEN TAX PAYERS FILE THEIR TAXES WITH THE BENFIT BANK THEY GET MORE IN TAX CREDITS AND WORK SUPPORTS
Households earning under $60,000 per year can get FREE tax filing assistance
while applying for public benefits.
Tax season has almost arrived, and ADULT & CHILDREN ENTERPRISES, INC. is partnering with The Benefit Bank to help low- and moderate-income wage earners obtain free federal and state income tax filing assistance, and to identify other work support benefits for which they may be eligible.
Free income tax filing assistance is provided through The Benefit Bank, a web-based, counselor-assisted program that connects low-to-moderate income residents with access to potential work supports, such as health care coverage, home energy assistance, child care subsidies and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly Food Stamps). At The Benefit Bank member organizations that offer tax filing assistance, trained counselors will help clients file their tax returns at no cost, if they meet the income eligibility requirement. If eligible, clients can also claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a special tax refund program for working families and individuals who qualify.
“Each year, many eligible taxpayers miss out on getting free tax preparation assistance because they either don’t know it is available or they don’t know where to get it said Jewel Morgan, Executive Director for ADULT & CHILDREN ENTERPRISES, INC.. “Furthermore, at least one in every four taxpayers eligible for the EITC fails to claim the credit, which is why ADULT & CHILDREN ENTERPRISES, INC. is encouraging local residents to visit our location to learn more.”
Each year, more than $1.6 billion dollars in tax credits and other supports go unclaimed because they were never applied for. More than 95 percent of these unclaimed funds are federal dollars. Claiming these dollars will bring more federal money to communities and help to boost the economy.
Eligible individuals also can obtain free tax filing assistance by visiting the The Benefit Bank’s free online, self-service program at https://selfserve.thebenefitbank.com/. This program is designed to help individuals and families prepare and electronically file their taxes and claim all the credits for which they are eligible at no cost to them. With direct deposit, clients can receive their refund in as few as seven to 10 days.
