What is Adult & Children Enterprises?Adult & Children enterprises (ACE) is a non-profit 501 c 3 community-based organization. ACE seeks to eliminate economic -(in)-security from local communities by providing training, entrepreneurship education, and technical assistance to youth and adults. Our mission is” to create a culture of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinkers, to improve socio-economic conditions for youth and families placed at risk, in order to strengthen and sustain diverse family systems.”

How does it work?
ACE is guided by seven basic principles that we believe provide a foundation for living as successful asset-based communities and five strategies for building wealth that can effectively support the diverse family structures within our communities. These principles and strategies, in addition to providing training and technical assistance to youth and adults, are important elements to helping individuals improve their lives, build their economies and contribute to their own stability.
What is S.T.E.P.?
S.T.E.P. © is an acronym for Students in Technology and Entrepreneurial Programming the framework developed for Adult & Children Enterprises’ Youth Business Incubator. S.T.E.P. is both the framework and the actual programming.
What is the purpose of S.T.E.P.?
The purpose of Students in Technology and Entrepreneurial Programming is to create an asset-based economic development “community” with committed students seeking to become socially conscience entrepreneurs that will eventually be knowledgeable in business management, strategic planning, financial forecasting and business leadership. The program is designed for highly motivated student leaders to actively participate in a business operation that will support scholarships. The curriculum focuses on environmental stewardship, business development, profitability (through enlightened wealth) and business leadership. Additionally, the programming provides character education, social skills development and enhances the student’s response to their community and global environment through service-learning activities.
How are the participants selected?
The S.T.E.P.© program seeks young people who are motivated to transform their lives and in turn the lives of others through active participation in methods that produce pro-social solutions. Often programs speak to specific populations of youth who are considered ‘at risk’ as though all of our children are not at risk for something whether it be domestic violence, civic apathy, poverty, discrimination--even over indulgence. Making money is necessary for taking care of our basic needs and building wealth is important for economic sustainability. Students are selected to become S.T.E.P. participants based upon their willingness and desire to become agents of change. To think and act outside the box—to make money, build wealth and then use it to produce pro-social solutions (i.e. a business venture that produces revenue that is applied toward a collective scholarship fund or venture capital for new business creation.)
ACE follows a nondiscriminatory policy of participant selection. ACE seeks to promote access, equity, and inclusiveness, and does not knowingly support activities that negatively discriminate by denying services, employment or volunteer opportunities, based upon race, color, age, sex, religion, physical or national origin. If you know of a young person between the ages of 11 and 19 who lives in the Raleigh area you may request information on the application process by emailing us howtoapply@ace-nc.org.
Who controls and manages Adult & Children Enterprises?
A board of directors determines policy and oversees and guides the mission of Adult & Children Enterprises. Board members are dedicated volunteers who are deeply concerned about the problems of economic security in our communities a list of our Board of Directors can be found on this website.
